Pictured above is our I CAN statement poster. These I CAN statements are general and actually work as our rules and guidelines for attitude and behavior in physical education. In addition to these general statements, unit specific I CAN statements are also posted in the gym.

On this page you will see just a few examples of how we are working to incorporate literacy into physical education.
PHYSICAL LITERACY: The mastering of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sport skills that permit a child to READ their environment and make appropriate decisions, allowing them to move confidently and with control in a wide range of physical activity situations. "The Road to literacy truly runs through every classroom, whether it has desks and chairs or merely lines on a floor." -Unknown |
P.E. Exit List
This is new to the 2016-2017 school year. As students line up to leave the gym they are asked to mentally "check" to make sure they had an AWESOME day in P.E. The goal is to have a 7/7 day! :0)

Action Words
The students really enjoy seeing these posted on the wall and reading them. These are some of our action words, these are all specific to physical education and what we are working on. Once they are posted, they stay up year long, and are referenced periodically as these words generally cross activities and sports.

Task Cards
Task cards are used periodically throughout the year, especially when working in stations or centers. The front of the card has a visual of what is expected at the station, on the back of the card are more written directions and choices for activities or skills to be performed at that station.
